National Geographic - Drain The Oceans

Post Production - 422 South

Agency: Mallinson Sadler Productions

For the National Geographic series Drain the Oceans, I collaborated with 422 South to bring numerous underwater environments to life. My responsibilities included directing, previs, modelling, texturing, lighting, animating, simulating, and rendering a significant number of shots across various episodes.

These sequences required meticulous attention to detail to reconstruct submerged historical sites, shipwrecks, and landscapes as they might appear if the water was removed. Leveraging advanced simulation techniques and a keen eye for realism, I worked to ensure that each shot conveyed the grandeur and historical significance of these hidden underwater worlds.

Some highlights of my contributions include:
  • Creating detailed 3D models and textures for shipwrecks and geological features.
  • Developing realistic lighting and water simulations to capture the unique underwater ambience.
  • Rendering high-quality visuals that seamlessly integrate with the narrative and enhance the storytelling.
  • Collaborating with the team to ensure scientific accuracy and artistic excellence.

This work was not only technically demanding but also creatively fulfilling, as it offered the opportunity to reimagine history and make the unseen visible to viewers around the world.
